1. WILSON COLLEGE JOB FAIR: The Employment Unit’s Sales Manager, who has substantial responsibility in the making of hiring decisions, collected applications/resumes from students interested in a career in the radio industry on September 19, 2007 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
2. SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY PART TIME JOB FAIR: The Employment Unit’s Sales Manager, who has substantial responsibility in making of hiring decisions, collected applications/resumes from students interested in a career in the radio industry on September 12, 2007 from 10:00 am until 2:00pm.
3. SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY CAREERFEST 2007: The Employment Unit’s Sales Manager, and Business Manager, each of whom have substantial responsibility in making of hiring decisions, accepted resumes and interviewed candidates at the Shepherd University CareerFest 2007 on Thursday, October 18, 2007. The CareerFest is designed to provide students the opportunity to discuss careers, graduate programs and volunteer opportunities within the various fields of employment present. The main goal of this CareerFest 2007 is career exploration rather than career placement.
4. CUMBERLAND VALLEY CONSORTIUM JOB AND INTERNSHIP FAIR: The Employment Unit’s Sales Manager and Business Manager, each of whom have substantial responsibility in the making of hiring decisions, accepted resumes and interviewed candidates at the Cumberland Valley Consortium Job and Internship fair held February 13, 2008. The Cumberland Valley Consortium Job and Internship Fair helps students choose and attain personally rewarding careers.
(b) Initiative: Programs Sponsored By Educational Institutions
1. CAREER EXPO-GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WITH GREENCASTLE – ANTRIM HIGH SCHOOL: On Monday, April 30, 2007, the WFYN afternoon announcer and a Sales Assistant/Sales Executive provided information to students on the education requirements, pay range, and opportunities that exist in Radio Broadcasting. The information provided enabled the 10th and 11th graders from Greencastle High School to understand the opportunities that exist and to guide them academically and professionally in making a more informed decision regarding their future and potential careers in broadcasting.
(c) Initiative: Internship/Job Shadowing
1. JOB SHADOWING: In association with the Greencastle Antrim High School, various departments in the Employment Unit provided students the opportunity to spend a day in the life of someone who works in broadcasting. Each student was present at the station on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm and was involved in all activities of the Employment Unit.
(d) Initiative: Mentoring Program
1. The Employment Unit offers a mentoring program for our sales assistants which is designed to give them the skills and experience to become Sales Representative. The sales assistants participate in all sales meetings and also in all sales training done at the stations. In addition, once per week each sales assistant rides with one of our sales representatives in the field in order to gain additional knowledge and to experience the sales process.
(e) Initiative: Scholarship Program
1. SESAC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: The Employment Unit participates in an annual scholarship given by SESAC and the International Broadcasters Idea Bank. The Employment Unit runs commercial announcements for 6 weeks soliciting applicants for the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student that is majoring in the broadcasting and/or journalism field. Scholarships are solicited nationwide and given to a student based on a panel of judges made up of participating Idea Bank stations. These announcements generally run in January and February for at least 6 weeks.
